Headlight restoration in Idaho falls

Clear bright headlights are important for the safety of you and your family. Faded yellowed or cloudy headlights are unsafe, and can severely reduce night time visibility.

Must Read! All Headlight Restoration Jobs are not the same!
When your vehicle's lights are new, a protective coating is applied over your poly carbonate plastic lenses. The coating holds up for  many years, but due to ultraviolet rays,  acid rain, road rash, and extreme temperatures  the original coating wears off; exposing the poly carbonate plastic to the harsh environment of the elements. What happens next is your lights become cloudy, faded and yellowed; making it difficult to see safely when driving in near-dark or night-time conditions.
Since they went from glass headlights to poly carbonate plastic, there have been a lot of savvy entrepreneurs coming up with solutions to this problem.
A simple, somewhat labor intense, solution is to sand the plastic down in increasing steps with finer and finer sandpaper then finish by buffing with finer and finer compounds until the headlights look like new. Then a wax or UV compound is applied to protect the porous plastic from the elements.
You can  find people set up in parking lots and lube shops doing this procedure, and it works fairly well initially, but in a few months all the discoloration is back. Some of these shops offer a warranty for 6 months or a year and you can come in and get them "touched up" for free but you still haven't addressed the real problem.
You can find kits in stores with just enough sandpaper and compounds to do one or two headlights for about $25.00.  Although this works fairly well initially, and after spending a couple of hours on it you can set back and admire your work with pride, it doesn't last very long, and again, a few months later they look just as bad or worse. Again you still haven't addressed the real problem.
In both these situations all you have done is "open up" the plastic to the elements and now it is just going to fade and yellow faster. This is because the headlights still don't have the quality protective coating they had from the factory.
There really is no easy way! The only way to do the job right, is to prepare the lights properly and put a UV protective coating on them equal to, or better than what they had to begin with.
This is the service we offer at North Yellowstone Motors just south of Rigby.  We sand and polish them, then we put the UV protective coating back on them. When we are done the clarity is as good as new,  It is done right, and it will last!
There is one drawback to doing the job right, and having a new looking headlight that will last as long as the original. It takes a more time. We will need your car for at least a half a day, if not overnight. This is because we usually remove the lights to do the prep work, then the protective coating is applied, baked on and cured then we put the lights back on the vehicle.

Doing the job right the first time is the best way!  Silicon and waxes from prior failed attempts have to be completely removed from the pores of the plastic to make the UV coating adhere properly.
